Letter to Roland
Letter to Roland
To my dearest brother Roland,
I hope this letter finds you in good health.
I have news! I have discovered what I believe to be an ancient temple to my lord Erastil. It is further South than any I have heard of before. I was travelling with a group of Taldoran explorers into the Mwangi Expanse when I got separated from the group chasing off a group of ape-men. Then I got lost. I know that will shock you, me lost. But it happened. This forest, jungle they call it, is unlike any other. You can go days without seeing the sun or stars. I wandered for a time, living off the land, and that is when I found it. Ruins and a partially standing temple. The temple bears ancient symbols of Old Deadeye! Before I could explore further I noticed it was inhabited by a strange tribe of black skinned elves, thankfully I was not seen. These people are monsters! In my time observing them I’ve seen how they treat each other and I’ve seen the blood rituals they perform on captives. Rituals done in Erastil’s name! I’ve only caught glimpses of their leader, a tall man in red armor. I don’t think he’s an elf.
Thankfully I was eventually able to find a river and I followed it out of the jungle.
I need you here brother. I have no one else to contact this side of the Inner Sea. Together I am sure we can purge these savages from Erastil’s house. And I am confident there will be treasure enough to keep you comfortable in Sothis for a few more years.
Travel through the Kho-Rarne Pass. You will find me in the Uomoto village of Ombassa. If I am not there I will be scouting the ruins. I have left details of how to get there with a man named Tophran. You won’t miss him, he is a Chelaxian who has married into the village. Despite his heritage he seems trustworthy enough.
Come prepared! The Kho-Rarne and the desert before it are the most desolate and dry wastelands you’ll see this side of hell. And the jungle! Dear gods the jungle! The air is thick enough to chew, the heat saps your strength, monsters, disease, even the plants seem to want you dead. And did I mention the elves have a pet land shark? But worry not, together we can do this!
See you soon dear brother.
